What kind of skills can a prisoner learn?

Training may be available in the following trades: textiles, engineering, woodwork, printing, plastic moulding, component assembly, computer aided design and desktop publishing. Availability of these courses will vary from prison to prison.

What is an Automatic Conditional Release licence?

This is an agreement which allows the prisoner to leave prison and which will normally include the following conditions:

  • Reporting to their probation officer regularly
  • Living at an approved address
  • Receiving visits from their probation officer
  • Keeping out of trouble.

Only prisoners serving between 12 months and 4 years come under automatic conditional release arrangements.
