Court Open Days
Doors are thrown open for a day of tours and activities aimed at increasing public understanding of how the justice process works. Hosted by several criminal justice agencies and organised by local magistrates and court staff, the day can include talks, exhibitions, the chance to meet and chat to court staff, attractions such as police cars and prison vans, and technology demonstrations showing how the courts are modernising with the introduction of, for example, video links for giving evidence. You may even be able to take part in a mock trial, playing the part of a magistrate or judge, juror, defendant, lawyer or witness to get a feel for what really happens in a court room and learn more about the criminal justice system.
To find out if a court open day is being organised in your area, visit the Magistrates Association website. During Inside Justice Week, courts across England and Wales will be opening their doors to welcome the public.
