Learning about the CJS
Do you know what the Criminal Justice System does and how it works? You'll find lots of information on this website to help you understand how the many CJS agencies work together to deliver justice and support and protect the public.
This section contains links to other sources of information to increase your knowledge about the CJS. For teachers it includes links and contact details for obtaining CJS resources and lesson plans for the PSHE and Citizenship components of the National Curriculum.
Youth Links
- Rizer. www.rizer.co.uk is a fun, interactive site providing information for young people about crime and the law. It contains stories about youth offending, a justice map, helpline numbers and tests your knowledge about the system.
- Youth Justice Board. www.yjb.gov.uk contains information about the Youth Justice System, such as different sentences a youth offender might receive or what a YOT (Youth Offending Team) does to help young offenders to stop committing crime.
- Crimestoppers. www.crimestoppers-uk.org/youth/ is the youth section of the site and explains who Crimestoppers are and how you can report crime.

- DfES (Department for Education and Skills). www.dfes.gov.uk provides links to teaching resources and information about teaching materials.
- Curriculum Online. www.curriculumonline.gov.uk provides information about the multimedia resources available for schools, how to purchase them and best-practice examples of how they are being used.
- Citizenship Foundation. www.citizenshipfoundation.org.uk is an independent charity with a particular focus on developing young people's citizenship skills, knowledge and understanding.
- Bar National Mock Trial Competition. www.citizenshipfoundation.org.uk provides information about this annual competition which enables teams of students aged between 15-18 to compete against other schools throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition. www.citizenshipfoundation.org.uk also contains information about the annual competition run in conjunction with the Magistrates' Association, which enables teams of students to gain a hands-on introduction to the legal system and Magistrates’ Courts. Teams from across England, Wales and Northern Ireland can enter.
