Excellence in Delivering Justice

11 Oct 2004

Have you ever wondered about the work of the people working behind the scenes in the Criminal Justice System? The finalists of the 2004 Justice Awards have been announced and offer a fascinating snapshot of the wide variety of dedicated work which goes on.

The awards recognise the diverse work done by those working within the Criminal Justice System (CJS), for instance helping victims of crime, working with offenders to prevent further offending or engaging with local communities. There are approximately 400,000 staff and volunteers who work in the CJS.

For more information on the finalists please visit www.cjsonline.gov.uk/justiceawards. Winners will be announced in a prestigious awards ceremony at 10 Downing Street on 26 October.

Home Office Minister Baroness Scotland said:

"Thousands of people up and down the country work tirelessly to ensure the Criminal Justice System serves local communities effectively. Due to the nature of the work, they often need to handle difficult and emotional situations on the one hand and obtain the right results for the public on the other. I hope the Justice Awards will recognise the unsung heroes in the CJS who manage to maintain this balance successfully."
