Broadcasting Courts: What do you think?

Should court proceedings be broadcast? Online discussion forum launched

22 Nov 2004

On 15 November 2004 the Department for Constitutional Affairs launched a consultation paper on the subject of broadcasting court proceedings.

At present, the law prohibits taking photographs (including film or video) in court, or broadcasting any sound recording made in court.

The Department for Constitutional Affairs are carrying out this consultation to ensure they understand the views of stakeholders, including members of the public, on the issues involved.

Now an online Discussion forum allows people to express opinions, make suggestions and put forward arguments. Contributions to the forum will form a valuable part of the consultation process, creating an active and comprehensive debate to complement the responses to the consultation paper.
