Local Criminal Justice Boards celebrate two years of improved justice performance
01 Apr 2005
Formed in April 2003, LCJBs bring together the heads of local criminal justice agencies to deliver an improved service to local communities. Their collective achievements include:
-
Improving public confidence in the Criminal Justice System by 4% since March 2003
-
Bringing over 11% more offences to justice since March 2002
-
Overseeing the roll-out of Witness Care Units, which offer victims and witnesses improved support throughout the criminal justice process
-
Reducing ineffective trials in Crown Courts by over a third since August 2002
Home Office Criminal Justice Minister Baroness Scotland said:
"We are currently meeting all our key national criminal justice targets - more offences brought to justice, more efficient justice process and increased public confidence. There's no doubt in my mind that we would not have achieved these results without Local Criminal Justice Boards.
It is therefore important to celebrate their achievements since they were set up in 2003 and I'd like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work. At the same time I know that Boards are not being complacent and are looking firmly to the future. Together we need to improve criminal justice services to local communities even further over the next two years."
