More efficient justice for victims and witnesses

21 Jul 2005

Victims and witnesses are set to benefit from a more efficient justice system following improvements to the management of criminal cases announced today.

The updated Criminal Case Management Framework provides guidance on how criminal cases should be handled from the moment of arrest through to their conclusion. The aim is to ensure the least possible bureaucracy, duplication or delay for victims and witnesses involved in criminal proceedings.

The Attorney General Lord Goldsmith, launching the new framework today, said:

"The Criminal Justice System must provide a first-class service to victims and witnesses of crime as well as being efficient and cost effective. I welcome the publication of the latest Framework, which builds on the steps which have already been taken to improve the ways criminal cases are managed. In particular, the updated framework contains new listing guidance for court cases which should mean more trials going ahead when they should."
