Outstanding contributions to criminal justice honoured as Inside Justice Week kicks off
17 Oct 2005
33 individuals and teams have been named across 11 categories for their outstanding work in the Criminal Justice System, such as helping victims of crime, working with offenders to prevent further offending or engaging with local communities.
The announcement kicks off Inside Justice Week, which is taking place this week across England and Wales and aims to increase the public's involvement and understanding of the Criminal Justice System. A wide range of local justice-related events are being run by the 42 Local Criminal Justice Boards.
The 11 winners of the Justice Awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Institute of Directors on 2 November, hosted by BBC Crimewatch's Fiona Bruce.
Baroness Scotland, the minister for Criminal Justice and Offender management at the Home Office, said:
"There is no better way to open Inside Justice Week than by recognising the remarkable work being done by so many people working and volunteering in the Criminal Justice System.
"The 33 individuals and teams chosen as finalists in the Justice Awards show high levels of professionalism and, most of all, commitment to their work. The Criminal Justice System can't function without their dedication as well as that of countless others throughout the country.
"I'd like to thank them all for their efforts and hope that Inside Justice Week will open up to others the range of rewarding opportunities available to work and volunteer in the Criminal Justice System"
