  • The proportion of ineffective trials in Magistrates' Courts has fallen to 21% from 31% in 2002.
  • The number of outstanding Failure To Appear (FTA) warrants has decreased by 9% since March 2005
  • The proportion of FTA warrants notified to the police within 1 working day has increased from 70% to 76% between June and September 2005, and the proportion notified within 3 working days has increased from 88% to 92% over the same period.

This is the first time that data on FTA Warrants has been published.

FTA Warrants are warrants issued by courts against defendants who fail to appear in court at the allotted date and time. The published figures relate to targets for reducing the number of outstanding warrants, and ensuring that the police are notified of 90% of warrants issued by the courts within 1 working day, and 100% within 3 working days.
