Draft Guidelines on Allocation of Cases Published

The Sentencing Guidelines Council (SGC) has today published draft guidelines for consultation relating to the allocation of cases between magistrates' and Crown Courts.
This draft guideline covers legislative and other factors that should influence the decision to try an either-way offence in a magistrates' court or the Crown Court.
The SGC is required to consult on a draft of any guidelines. Consultation will be with the Home Secretary, the Lord Chancellor and the Attorney General and with Home Affairs Select Committee and party leaders in the House of Lords. The consultation closes on 10th April 2006.
