Have your say about supporting victims of crime
16 Feb 2006
In it we propose to re-focus the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme on victims with the most serious injuries. For victims with less serious injuries, we will provide practical help tailored to their needs, rather than a relatively small payment a long time after the event. We set out various models for Victim Care Units to deliver this support.
There is £1m to establish pilot projects to test the different models of Victim Care Units. In order to set up the pilots and then roll them out we need information from people who work in the system. Views from you will directly feed into the policy making process.
Those working in the Criminal Justice System at local level are best placed to tell us about:
- what model Victim Care Units should be
- and what services they should provide.
There are many other issues covered in the paper and we would welcome views on these also. We feel that CJS staff's particular knowledge would help us most on Victim Care Units and the services they should provide which is why this article particularly focuses on this aspect. If you are able to respond on other areas we would certainly encourage you to do so.
You can download a copy of the consultation from the right hand side of this page. The closing date for responses to the paper is 1 March 2006. Responses should be sent to rebuildinglives@cjs.gsi.gov.uk
