Developing statistics that drive change: Implementing the Root and Branch Review of the Race and Criminal Justice System Statistics

01 Sep 2006

The race and criminal justice system statistics are one of the main sources of information available on BME people's experiences across the criminal justice system; however since they were first published in 1992 they have developed incrementally. This Review is the first systematic examination of their collection, dissemination and use.

The Government is committed to driving performance in relation to race across the criminal justice system and based upon the findings of the Review we will be taking forward a major programme of work to develop the current statistics into a comprehensive set of management information that can be used to drive performance in relation to race issues across the system. We are publishing both the review and our response for consultation and would welcome feedback on our proposals. Copies of both documents are available to download from the right hand side of this page.
