Responses to the consultation paper Bringing Offenders to Justice: Criminal Justice Penalties and Sentencing
28 Aug 2007
Eight responses were received from Criminal Justice System (CJS) stakeholders including the Council of Circuit Judges, the Magistrates' Association and the Justices' Clerks' Society. Responses included:
- General views on out-of-court disposals;
- Comments on how out-of-court disposals are used;
- Plans to develop a comprehensive guide for practitioners.
The consultation set out the Government's intention to work with CJS practitioners and the judiciary to develop a more comprehensive guide on deciding whether cases should go to court or not.
It brings together information on all the alternatives to court disposals for adults, including Penalty Notices for Disorder, simple cautions and conditional cautions.
The consultation was first published on this website in 2 January 2007. The closing date for responses was 30 March 2007. Copies were sent to a number of stakeholders inviting comments.
