Statistics on Race and the Criminal Justice System 2006

30 Oct 2007

The latest statistics on race and the Criminal Justice System (CJS) are published today by the Ministry of Justice.

These figures are published annually as a provision of Section 95 of the Criminal Justice Act 1991 for the Secretary of State to make public information regarding Black Minority and Ethnic (BME) communities within the CJS, in order to avoid discrimination on the grounds of race.

This publication reports statistical information on the representation of BME groups as suspects, offenders and victims within the CJS and on employees within criminal justice agencies.
