New Business Plan published for Criminal Justice System

The plan sets out targets and funding for reform of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) for 2008 - 2009. It puts LCJBs, rather than central government, at the forefront of deciding how criminal justice processes can be improved at local level to provide better services to local communities.
This is the first of the CJS's annual business plans to underpin Working Together to Cut Crime and Deliver Justice: A Strategic Plan for 2008 - 2011 published in November 2007. The strategic plan set out the Government's vision for a more efficient and effective CJS which engages the public, inspires confidence and puts the needs of the victim at its heart.
Office for Criminal Justice Reform Acting Chief Executive, David Wood, said:
"Through the National Criminal Justice Board, we are giving LCJBs the opportunity to lead and shape criminal justice reform supported, rather than led, from the centre.
"The business plan recognises that LCJBs need to be given a more active role in responding to the needs and priorities of their communities and driving change, in partnership and collaboration with the centre and local partners.
"I look forward to working with LCJBs in shaping this new approach so that we can continue to make communities safer and improve the services the CJS provides to the public.
