Quarterly performance figures for Local Criminal Justice Boards published

The figures, for the quarter to March 2008 and covering England and Wales, show:
1.447 million offences were brought to justice in the twelve months to March 2008. This exceeds the level of the 2007/08 PSA target to bring 1.25 million offences to justice in 2007/08, and represents an increase of 44% on the baseline year ending March 2002.
The offences brought to justice (OBTJ) were broken down as follows; 50.2% convictions, 26.0% cautions, 9.3% penalty notices for disorder (PNDs), 7.4% offences taken into consideration at court (TICs) and 7.1% formal warnings for cannabis.
Performance on public confidence in the CJS for the year to March 2008 was at 44%, which is stable in comparison to the CJS baseline of 43% for the year ending March 2005. This is a statistically significant increase on the PSA 2 baseline of 39% for 2002/03 and this target has been met.
The proportion of ineffective trials in the Crown Court has fallen to 10.8% from 23.7% in 2002, therefore meeting the March 2008 target of 14.0%.
The proportion of ineffective trials in Magistrates' Courts has fallen to 18.1% from 30.9% in 2002, therefore meeting the March 2008 target of 19%.
The PYO pledge was to halve the average time from arrest to sentence for persistent young offenders from 142 days to 71 days. The average time for the period January to March 2008 was 60 days.
The total value of fines collected as a percentage of the value of fines imposed (excluding confiscation orders) across Local Criminal Justice Board areas was 95% for the 2007/08 financial year. It has exceeded the 2007/08 target of 85%.
The number of outstanding Failure To Appear (FTA) warrants has decreased by 52% since March 2005, and has exceeded the March 2008 target of a 47% reduction.
The proportion of FTA warrants notified to the police within 1 working day was 95% for the period January to March 2007 and has dropped to 93% for the period January to March 2008, still exceeding the 90% target. The proportion notified within 3 working days has remained stable at 99% over the same period. The proportion of FTA warrants executed in a timely manner, between January and March 2008, for Category A warrants was 65% within 14 working days, for Category B warrants was 69% within 21 working days and for Category C warrants was 60% within 28 working days, against a target of 70%, 70% and 60% respectively.
The average time to resolve community penalty breaches for the period January to March 2008 was 42 days therefore not meeting the target of 35 days. The percentage of breaches resolved within 25 working days for the period January to March 2008 was 58%, which is below the target level of 60%.
There were 3,977 confiscation orders obtained for the period 2007/08, which is 103% of the financial year target.
The value of the confiscation orders obtained were £90.1 million, which is also above the financial year target.
There were 1,106 restraint orders for the period 2007/08, which is 172% of the financial year target.
The amount of confiscation order monies collected for the financial year 2007/08 was £103.0 million, which is 101% of the financial year target.
