Victim's Charter
It also explains how you can complain if the standards are not met.
The Charter represents a commitment by the Government and the criminal justice agencies to address the needs and expectations of victims. The Government and the agencies in turn can expect to be judged against the results.
You can expect a crime you have reported to be investigated and to receive information about what happens; the chance to explain how the crime has affected you, and your interests to be taken into account; if you have to go to court as a witness, to be treated with respect and sensitivity; to be offered emotional and practical support.
Victims' Code of Practice
In April 2006, the Charter will be replaced by the Victims' Code of Practice. The statutory code builds on the commitments laid out in the Charter, to set minimum standards of service that victims and witnesses can expect from the Criminal Justice System agencies. A full version of the Code can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page.
