Where can I find out about the support available for witnesses?

The Witness Service

Victim Support runs the Witness Service in every criminal court in England and Wales to give information and support to witnesses, victims, their families and friends when they go to court.

Victim Support

Victim Support is an independent national charity. Trained volunteers based at local schemes contact people following a crime to offer free, confidential support and information. People are referred to Victim Support by the police and other organisations or make direct contact themselves to ask for help.

Samaritans

A charity that helps the lonely or suicidal. Numbers are in the local phone book or the operator will put you through. You can get help on the phone by calling their national Helpline, or face to face

Suzy Lamplugh Trust

Leading authority on personal safety. A positive approach to aggression and violence including issues relating to bullying.

The Way Foundation

Offers a self-help social and support network for men and women under the age of 50, and their children, who have lost a partner.

Women's Support Network

Umbrella organisation for women's groups throughout the UK.

Befrienders

International support service working to prevent suicide.

The Child Death Helpline

Professionals and parents working in partnership to provide a freephone listening service that offers emotional support to all those affected by the death of a child.

The Compassionate Friends

The Compassionate Friends (TCF) is an organisation of bereaved parents and their families offering understanding, support and encouragement to others after the death of a child or children. They also offer support and advice and information to other relatives, friends and professionals who are helping the family.

Counselling advice and opportunities for social contact for all bereaved people.

Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs)

Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) are listed on the met website. SARCs offer a comprehensive service with on-going treatment, advice, counselling and follow up specialist and forensically trained doctors and nurses. It aims to provide a one-stop-shop service to victims of rape.

Survivors UK

UK organisation which helps male survivors of sexual abuse and rape by providing a telephone helpline, 1:1 counselling and group counselling.
